About Me

MeHi, I’m Heidi Melissa.  The founder of the pARTy planning – The Art in Party Planning.  I use the word ‘founder’ loosely as I really haven’t founded anything.  I started a blog.  Why?  I don’t know.  It’s something I thought about for awhile and then just went for it.  As one friend perfect put it, ‘live empty’ – meaning don’t hold onto your dreams, live them out.  I can’t say my lifelong dream was to start a blog, but I have always longed to be an event coordinator.  I plan to use this blog as a vehicle to share my party and event planning ideas.  I include the word ‘event’ because I love organizing everything from family vacations and outings to camp-outs and much needed girl’s nights.

My post college plan was to go into event marketing or event planning.  I ended up with a good job on the buying side of retail and that is where I spent that last decade – well I should talk in the present tense because I’m still here.  I enjoy what I do and I take my career seriously, but my true passion is party planning.

What do I hope this blog becomes?  I’m not sure.  It might become a hobby, a career or maybe even a charity.  Most likely it will simply serve as my creative outlet.  Like I said, I have a passion for planning and organizing parties and events.  This blog is an extension of my ‘love to do.’  I guess you could call it the written version of my passion.

If money were no object, what would I do?  This.  I would plan parties all day long, then write about it.  Ultimately, I would love to turn it into a vehicle I could use to help people.  I often dream about how much one of my parties would mean to someone who really needs it – a dream birthday party for a child spending their birthday in Children’s Hospital or a food drive Thanksgiving.  The list goes on and on.

I started this blog just over a month ago.  I am feverishly working to learn everything I can about the blogging world.  I have told some of my family and a handful of friends about the blog, but for the most part I’ve kept it pretty quiet in my circle.  I guess I wanted to test drive the blogging world before making the proclamation, I am a blogger.  It took me just over a month (33 days to be exact) to get my first 1,000 views.  That number excited me more than I can describe for the simple fact the majority of those views came from outside my inner circle.  I have such a great support system of family and friends that I was afraid if I told all of them about the blog I wouldn’t push myself to get out into the blogging world.

Kate & NoahNow for the personal stuff.  I’ve been married to the love of my life for the past 7 years.  We have two kids, a 6 year old daughter, named Kate, and a little guy named Noah, who will be turning 3 this July.  I’m sure I’ll be posting about his Mickey Mouse birthday party 🙂  Our family is completed by our German Shorthair Pointer named Mylee.  She is full of love (& mischief).

Since this is the start of my 5th week I thought I should take some time to formally introduce myself.  I would love to get to know all of you better.  If you have any questions, just ask!  I’m a pretty open book – or blog.

Thanks for visiting!

Nice post, Heidi Melissa. I quite envy people who like to plan parties. I tell our guests that I’ll cook for them as often as they want, as long as they’ll plan their own entertainment. Good luck on your pARTy planning and your blog.

Heidi, You have a great bio and I totally connect with your sentiments and purpose. Today, I was thinking about how I really haven’t told many of my friends and family about my blog- for the exact same reasons you gave! I am looking forward to reading about your party and event ideas!

I really liked your positive attitude – I would love to have hit 1000 views in 33 days! I also like the fact you’ve got something (party/event planning) and are dipping your toe in the water and giving it a real go. All the very best with all your plans for the future – I look forward to reading your adventures and being inspired to do what I really want to do with my life!

The first month I wrote my blog 42 people read it. I was so excited, because I hadn’t told anyone about it yet! 🙂 Congratulations on getting started and that very respectable first month. I have a feeling if you keep at it that number will continue to grow!

Cute write up, and I love your whimsical blog and style. You are a fun and energetic person I think. Event planning can be rewarding, but most point to the frustrating parts. Keep your blog notes as you share tips, and ideas for planning different events, big and small from beach bonfires to retirement parties. You may have the makings of a wonderful ebook.

    1. Thanks so much for reading & the advice! I, like you, don’t really know why I blog or the purpose of all of this. It all boils down to as you elluded to, ‘why not’? The idea of having something to work toward, like an ebook is fascinating and just thinking about it puts an extra pep in my step (or keystroke). Thanks again!

  12. An idea, Heidi: the pARTy planning: ARTistic, ARTastic, ART something or other (?)
Just a thought for the tagline since we talked about that.
Drop it if it doesn’t appeal, really. –roc,sj
